Labor Day parade warms hearts during chilly temps

Monday was Labor Day. A day set aside to honor the working people of America.  Which includes most of us.  For those of use who live in the northern tier of states, Labor Day also marks the end of summer.  And right on schedule, some chilly air met the marchers in the Labor Day Parade through downtown Rapid City Monday morning.

Newell celebrates Labor Day and 100th birthday

Newell celebrated more than just Labor Day with their annual parade.  The town turned 100 this year and the big centennial celebration was Monday.  Newell was the center of a big irrigation project in the early 1900s and is referred to as the sheep capitol of the world.

Labor Day ends summer but not tourist season

Cool temps lower fire danger

Firefighters have gained control of a few wildfires in the Black Hills.  The Long Ridge Fire two miles south of Red Canyon Road in Custer County is now 100 percent contained.  The other smaller fires were contained early Sunday.

The Olive Garden is sending some Italian love to those laboring on Labor Day.  The restaurant delivered and served lunch to firefighters in Rapid City Monday afternoon.  The Olive Garden says it's a way of thanking them for their dedication and service to the community on Labor Day and throughout the year.

24/7 program moves out, neighbors celebrate

It's a program that tries to keep convicted drunk drivers from offending again. But Pennington County's 24-7 program seemed to offend its neighbors wherever it went. For the past year and a half, the program made its home in a downtown neighborhood.

Lightning sparks wildfires in Custer County

Thunderstorms moved through the area Saturday night sparking several wildfires. Firefighters responded to three separate lightning caused fires in Custer County. The Ghost Fire is located one mile south of Highway 40 west of Hermosa.
